Immerse in one of our all-inclusive, magical overnight tours.

We offer several tour options for birdwatchers, photographers, and other nature lovers. While you might choose to stay only one night, we recommend choosing the two or three night options to maximize your experience at Mashpi Amagusa. We focus our itineraries in three main categories – Birdwatching, Bird Photography, and Nature Lovers.

For those of you choosing to stay a full 3-nights, we highly recommend requesting a visit to  Sacha Guatusa and/or the closest Cock-of-the-Rock Lek. We are also open to longer visits. Simply make these requests on our reservation form.

Birding Light (1-night / 2-days)

Upon your arrival, we may recommend changes to this itinerary based on the weather, animal behavior, or your own birding preferences.

Day 1: Arrival and Birdwatching at Feeders

1:30 PM: Arrival at our reserve. Settle in, meet your guide, and prepare for an afternoon of birdwatching.

2:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Birdwatching session at the feeders. This is a fantastic opportunity to observe a variety of birds and provides a great introduction to the area’s endemic species.

7:00 PM: Dinner in our protected, outdoor dining room. Enjoy a delicious meal prepared with local ingredients.

Day 2: Dawn Birding and Forest Exploration

6:00 AM: Early morning birding session at our “Light Trap” where early-rising birds hunt for moths and other insects.

8:00 AM: Breakfast in our dining room. Refuel with a hearty meal to energize you for the morning’s activities.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Guided forest walk to observe other bird species not typically seen at the feeders. This trek through the lush forest will provide opportunities to see a wider array of Mashpi Amagusa’s birds.

12:30 PM: Lunch in our dining room. Enjoy a delicious lunch at the lodge, reflecting on the morning’s discoveries and the incredible diversity you’ve witnessed.

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Departure from Mashpi Amagusa. It’s time to say goodbye, taking with you memories and photographs of the remarkable birds and glorious places you’ve experienced.

8:00 AM: Breakfast in our dining room. Enjoy a hearty meal while looking out for birds that come into the nearby garden.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM:  Appreciate the birds that come to our feeders, switching from station to station in order to focus on those birds you haven’t yet had the chance to see.

12:30 PM: Lunch in our dining room. Enjoy one final meal before getting ready to head out on your next adventure.

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Departure from the reserve. It’s time to say goodbye, taking with you memories and photographs of the remarkable birds and glorious places you’ve experienced.

2:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Choose an activity that you would like to repeat in order to see a bird that might not have appeared the first time through. Or, if you’ve been lucky, talk with the team about taking a new hike in a less-visited area. We want to help you maximize that life list.

7:00 PM: Dinner in our dining room. Enjoy a leisurely meal recounting the best birding moments of the day.

Day 4: A Feathered Farewell, One Last Glimpse

6:00 AM: We recommend one last morning at the “Light Trap. This may be the morning for a rare sighting.

8:00 AM: Breakfast in our dining room. Enjoy a hearty meal while looking out for birds that come into the nearby garden.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Choose an activity that you would like to repeat in order to get one last glimpse of your favorite bird or to see a species that has been shy for the past few days or that weather has made it difficult to see.

12:30 PM: Lunch in our dining room. Enjoy your final meal at the lodge before getting ready to head on to your next adventure.

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Departure from the reserve. It’s time to say goodbye, taking with you memories and photographs of the remarkable birds and glorious places you’ve experienced.

If you are setting up for multi-flash, it is very important to let us know when making your reservation. Multi-flash setup requires that we dedicate a space for your equipment that allows you access to the birds you want to photograph with minimum impact on other guests.

Day 2: Dawn Birding and Hummingbird Photography

8:00 AM: Breakfast in our dining room. Refuel with a hearty meal to energize you for the morning’s activities.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Bird photography session in the hummingbird garden. Your guide will arrange a natural setting to photography hummingbirds without having to rely on the feeders.

12:30 PM: Lunch in the dining room. Enjoy a delicious lunch at the lodge, reflecting on the morning’s best photos and the incredible diversity you’ve witnessed.

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Departure from the reserve. It’s time to say goodbye, taking with you memories and photographs of the remarkable birds and glorious places you’ve experienced.

Day 3: One Last Perfect Shot…

6:00 AM: Early morning birding session at the “Light Trap” to challenge your low light photography skills. Some birds are not daily visitors so we hope to add some new species to your list.

8:00 AM: Breakfast in our dining room. Enjoy a hearty meal while enjoying the birds that come into the nearby garden.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM:  Appreciate the birds that come to our feeders, setting up for those birds you haven’t yet had the chance to photograph or for perfecting a shot of your favorite bird.

12:30 PM: Lunch in our dining room. Enjoy a final meal with us before getting ready to head on to your next adventure.

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Departure from the reserve. It’s time to say goodbye, taking with you memories and photographs of the remarkable birds and glorious places you’ve experienced.

12:30 PM: Lunch in our dining room. Enjoy a delicious lunch while chatting with our team about the photos you still want to take.

2:00 PM – 5:00 PM: This is your opportunity to capture that perfect picture, taking into account the afternoon light. Remember – chat with our team about the shot you are after. They can be essential in tweaking the setup.

7:00 PM: Dinner in our dining room. Enjoy a leisurely meal recounting the best photography moments of the day.

Day 4: Perfecting Your Photography

6:00 AM: We recommend one last morning at the “Light Trap. This may be the morning for a rare sighting.

8:00 AM: Breakfast in our dining room. Enjoy a hearty meal while looking out for birds that come into the nearby garden.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Choose an activity that you would like to repeat in order to get one last photograph of your favorite bird or to see a species that has been shy for the past few days. This is the chance to take all you have learned about local bird behavior and use it to your advantage.

10:00 AM – 3:00 PM:  Grab your backpack and stow a delicious box lunch for a day of adventure in the foothills of Mashpi Amagusa. We will hike out on a longer trail and explore parts of our property rarely visited by our guests. Come prepared to ford streams, bathe in a natural pool, and eat al fresco. Alternatively, stay closer to the lodge and return for lunch in the dining room.

3:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Rest and relax back at the lodge – or take this time to sit with the hummingbirds and tanagers, capturing a few shots on your cell phone.

7:00 PM: Dinner in our dining room. Enjoy a leisurely meal recounting the best birding moments of the day.

Day 4: Bonding with Nature  – One Last Morning at Mashpi Amagusa

6:30 AM: We offer another optional morning watching birds on our property. By this time, you may be ready to start tracking your life list on eBird! Ask us how.

8:00 AM: Breakfast in our dining room. Enjoy a hearty meal while looking out for birds that come into the nearby garden.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM: It’s your last morning! What do you want to do? From sitting at a feeder station to taking to our trails, the options are endless.

12:30 PM: Lunch at our restaurant. Enjoy one final meal with us before getting ready to head on to your next adventure.
